For Educators & Professionals
Our clinicians have been providing support to schools and collaborating on education teams with teachers and other therapists for many years. We love this type of work; it's hugely gratifying to see how this collaboration results in exciting growth for the children and satisfaction for the professionals.
Working together with colleagues, we appreciate that the strategies that work in a household might not necessarily translate into the classroom. Behavioural challenges can come from frustrations with the learning material or with the social group, and can create problems which wouldn't be an issue at home. We can help tease out the important issues and develop a plan to let the child function more calmly and successfully at school.
Our role is to help teachers and other professionals understand why a child might have different struggles in the school setting, and how adults can use and expand their toolkit to make things work better for the child. The right strategies and accommodations will help the whole classroom function more smoothly.
At Calgary Child Psychologist, we know that even in the most frustrating situations with their students, teachers possess remarkable skills and have the power to have a meaningful, positive impact on every child's learning and behaviour. Like a parent in the home, teachers and other professionals can set the tone for success for the entire class when they use effective approaches. We are committed to helping bring those practical solutions to light.
If you are a teacher or professional who would like input from our office, you can talk to your school board (or the funding body for your program) to find out if there is funding available for an assessment or consultation. Alternatively, you can encourage the child's family to contact us and arrange for services privately.
